Jishu temple

Hello, friends! Today, I will introduce you to an enjoyable temple: Jishu Temple, located within the Kiyomizu precincts, is famous for boosting love luck. It’s one of the country's most famous matchmaking shrines, dedicated to the god of love, Okuninushi. Anyone looking for romance or marriage will head here, and, unsurprisingly, it’s full of young girls. It all comes down to the legend of the Rabbit of Inaba. The rabbit told a lie to the crocodiles. He said, "I want to check which has more friends, so bring your fellows here and line them up on the farther shore." He just wanted to cross the river. But when he was almost at the shore, he told the crocodiles, "I told a lie. I just wanted to cross the river." The crocodiles got angry and tore the rabbit's hair. While he was weeping, Okuninushi found him and treated the wounded rabbit. Okuninushi was on his way to see a beautiful princess. She is so beautiful that many men want to marry her. The rabbit foretold to Okuninushi that a prince would marry her.

An exciting attraction

You can find two big stones as shown in a picture. Stand by one of them (either one is fine) and walk to the other stone with your eyes closed. If you arrive safely, you will get a guy you like or love. Please try it carefully so that you don't hit other visitors.

Good luck charm

There are many types of amulets here. Each charm has a different meaning: love, exams, health, money, etc. If you're unsure which amulet is best for you, please check your wish. Jishu Jinja's amulets are colorful and cute. They are very popular among young women. I recommend charms as gifts.

Hitogata (How to Shoot Trouble)

At the sides of the shrine, you find a couple of tables with hitogata paper figures designed to wash away your problems. These little cut-outs are similar to the sympathetic magic of medieval witchcraft, where dolls were used to represent others for healing purposes. In this case, you write your problem on the hitogata paper, place it in the water (you will find a bucket with water), and it will all be washed away. It costs 200 yen.
