Words of Mother Teresa (3)
Hello everyone! There is a saying that "today's enemy is tomorrow's friend," but the opposite is also true. Today's friend might be tomorrow's enemy. Therefore, even if someone says something inconvenient to you, it might be better not to speak ill of others in a loud voice. Reconciling after being on bad terms until just a moment ago is not a story exclusive to the world of children; it can easily happen in the adult world as well.
From the Quotes of Mother Teresa
People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of having hidden, selfish motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and genuine enemies. Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and sincere, people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight. Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow. Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough. Give the world the best you've got anyway.
To Be Able to Say, "My Life Was a Good Life"
Mother Teresa must have been a truly strong person. To maintain such conviction throughout one's life is surely why she is called a saint. In this human world, there are more painful things than fun things, and for some people, life is a continuous series of sufferings. As Mother Teresa's words suggest, what you have worked so hard to build up until now could collapse in an instant due to this COVID-19 pandemic. Even so, what on earth is the meaning of continuing to persevere?
Thinking about the meaning of life in the first place is something only people with too much time on their hands do. I believe what matters is how you lived and whether you can say, "It was a good life," without any regrets when you die. We cannot choose the environment we are born into, so that is destiny. For example, being born in Japan as a Japanese person is destiny. Burning your life away with all your might within the given environment might be the very meaning of life. Instead of acting half-heartedly, haphazardly, or thinking "this is good enough," you should work hard, earnestly, and single-mindedly without looking back. As Mother Teresa said, even if what is precious to you is destroyed along the way, you must keep going as long as you have life. As you age, the scope of what you can do may narrow, but you rebuild yourself and do your best within that scope, until the oil that burns your life runs out. I previously watched a TV feature on NEETs. Some young people did nothing for their parents—who had graduated from university—and just spent the whole day doing only what they liked. They are not burning their life at all, are they? Isn't the oil they fortunately possess turning rotten? If you burn your life, it becomes bright and feels good. What a waste. In stark contrast to these unmotivated youth, there are people with disabilities who run businesses. I saw this on TV a long time ago, but their disability was no longer at a level of just having an impairment; they were bedridden and could only move their eyeballs. Using a computer operated by eye movements, they made products and sold them. If I recall correctly, they said their annual earnings were about 300,000 yen. Their enthusiasm to expand the business further was clearly conveyed, and I was simply deeply moved that such an amazing person exists.
First, accept the destiny that is beyond your control. Keep burning all the oil you have within the given environment. Burning your life is the proof of happiness, because you are alive. No matter how much money you have, it amounts to nothing once you die. No matter how unreasonable a situation or person you encounter, recall Mother Teresa's words and challenge yourself again and again.
