(I shall deliver you without fail. Trust in me.)
Namu Amida Butsu (I shall deliver you without fail. Trust in me.)
Please Look at This Picture Before You Go to Sleep
Today, I drew this picture based on inspiration. I drew it with a prayer that its good vibrations will reach all of you. When I drew the first wave, I felt like it was the first wave I had drawn, but as I drew more and more, I got buried in the countless waves and lost the sense of drawing them. If you look very closely, you can tell they were drawn, but if you don't pay attention, it feels as if nothing is drawn at all. Yet, when you look at the whole picture, a nice set of waves steadily forms. We might be just like one of these many waves. I intentionally made the background black. Black signifies "nothingness," and the waves signify "illusion." Our true self might only appear as a wave, while in reality, we are part of the pitch-black darkness.
I drew this with a prayer so that you can be released from all the various things that happened throughout the day and sleep soundly. There is no use in resisting; if you just surrender yourself to things as they are, there is absolutely nothing to worry about. Everything is Namu Amida Butsu. If you leave it all to Amida Buddha, everything will be fine. This is the absolute truth. I myself have been saved many times right when I was on the verge of falling off a cliff.
We Are Not Seeing with Our Eyes
As mentioned at the beginning, our ancestors do not have physical bodies. How are they watching over us? Perhaps they can see and hear even without eyes or ears. Sometimes I wonder, do we humans really see with our eyes? Do we hear with our ears, feel with our skin, taste with our tongues, and smell with our noses? Maybe we are not actually seeing with our eyes. Maybe we are not hearing with our ears. Medicine proves anatomically that the body's functions certainly exist. Even so, does that really count as proof that we see with our eyes? I wonder about this sometimes. Am I losing my mind? Is it strange? It is strange, isn't it? I feel that through our bodies, something else is seeing, hearing, tasting, and rejoicing. That might be who we truly are.
Does the Afterlife Exist?
Some people hold the sad belief that death is the absolute end, and nothing remains. I believe the afterlife exists. I don't think there is a ranking like hell or heaven, and both bad and good people go to the same place. I believe personality is shaped by the brain, genes, and environment, and it is not a person's true nature. Thinking this way makes me feel I can look at even those who have harmed me with a heart of compassion. I have heard news stories about people who grew up in extremely poor family environments, suffered abuse from their parents, and spent a childhood not knowing when they might die, eventually losing trust in humanity and turning to theft or murder. At such times, if I think that I might have done the same thing had I grown up in that person's environment, it feels like everyone shares the same nature of life. The nature to be kind to people, and the nature to deceive or hurt people—both are me, both are that person, and both belong to all of humanity. Thinking this way, don't you think Shinran Shonin's Akunin Shoki theory (the evil person is the primary object of Buddha's salvation) is amazing? It makes sense to me that the Buddha would save an evil person even before a good person. After all, evil people are playing the villain because the stage director and scriptwriter instructed them to, so it is not something humans can control. There is no use in resisting the idea that we live by our own power; we have no choice but to accept that everything follows a greater flow. If you are going to be an actor, you would probably rather have a cool role, wouldn't you? Books on non-duality also state that humans can only act exactly as they are programmed by their genes. Therefore, I have recently come to think that once we lose our physical bodies—meaning we also lose our personalities—and are stripped bare, we are all exactly the same on the inside.
